Telecel Internet Settings

In this article, we are going to look at Telecel internet settings and how you can manually set them up on different mobile devices. Telecel is the smallest MNO in Zimbabwe by subscriber numbers. The other two Mobile Network Operators command greater subscriber numbers by comparison. So, how do you set up internet on your Telecel line?

Due to this obvious disadvantage, they need to be innovative in their attempts to get a larger share of the pie. One of the ways that they do this is by offering cheaper data packages that the other 2 players.

Due to this, a number of subscribers have gotten onboard and use Telecel for their data needs. It wasn’t too long ago that a dual or triple sim mobile phone was the subject of ridicule as it was associated with cheap Asian imports.

Bigger, well-known brands such as Samsung and Apple are even embracing dual sim technology. The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and later models now come with dual sim technology albeit the second sim will be an e-sim and not a physical one.

This means that someone can easily have 2 or all 3 of Zimbabwe’s MNOs on one mobile phone. You can have your mainline designated for calls and messages while your Telecel line can be for data.

How do I activate Telecel Internet?

When you insert a Telecel line into a phone for the first time, you will receive data configuration text messages which automatically set up your internet settings. Sometimes though, this does not happen. You will need to manually set up your data connectivity.

How you set up your internet connection will vary depending on the phone model you are using and in this article, we are going to cover how you can do this on iOS, Android, Windows phone, Blackberry as well as on a wireless dongle.

Setting up Telecel APN on Android

To set up Telecel APN on Android devices, follow these steps:

1. Go to Settings
2. Go to Connections. On some phones, this will be written as Wireless Networks or More
3. Select Mobile Networks/ Cellular Networks/ Data Connections depending on your phone
4. Select Access Point Names
5. Select Add/ Create new APN
6. Type Telecel Zimbabwe under name
7. Under APN type internet
8. On APN Type, set to default
9. Save Settings

You should ensure that the new APN you just set up is appearing and activated.

Setting up Telecel APN on iOS or iPhone

If you are an iPhone user, you can follow these steps to get set up:

Option 1

1. Select Settings
2. Go to Cellular Data Network
3. Tap on APN and input internet
4. Go down to LTE setup and type internet

Step 2

1. Go to MMS
2. Leave APN Blank
3. Leave password blank
4. Leave MMS proxy blank
5. Set MMS message size to 1048576
6. Leave MMS UA Prof blank

Setting up Telecel APN on Windows Phone

If you have a Windows phone, follow these steps:

1. Go to Settings
2. Select Network and Wireless
3. Go to Cellular & SIM Settings
4. Select Add Internet APN and under that option, enter these settings

•         Profile Name: Telecel
•         APN: internet
•         User Name: Leave empty
•         Password: Blank
•         Type of sign in info: none
•         IP Type: Ipv4
•         Proxy server URL: Leave blank
•         Proxy Port: Blank

Telecel APN Settings for Blackberry

For Blackberry, use the following settings:

1. Go to Settings
2. Select Network Settings
3. Go to Mobile Network
4. Go to APN. Under APN enter the following settings:

•         Access Point Name: internet
•         Username: Leave blank
•         Password: Leave blank

Setting up Telecel APN on Internet Dongle          

For a wireless or WiFi dongle, use the following settings:

1. Under Profile Name type Internet
2. On APN type internet
3. Under Access Number enter *99#
4. Leave User Name section blank
5. Leave the password section blank
